I don't remember ever mentioning it here, but in an earlier lifetime, I spent nearly fifteen years in the broadcasting industry, mainly as a disc jockey on various commercial music stations. As a result, I have a box full of old cassette tapes containing interviews, airchecks, demos, commercials, and other ephemera I recorded or picked up over the years. Slowly but surely, I've been converting them to mp3 and storing them on my hard drive. As the tape in the 25-year-old cassettes crumbles, the contents--for better or for worse--live on.
Unsurprisingly, most of it sounds pretty rough to my ears all these many years later, but it was all great fun at the time. From time to time, I may put some of it online, if only to giggle at.
This is the last resume tape I did, though I don't think I ever sent it anywhere. It wasn't long after this that I decided to leave the radio industry forever. Produced in 2000, it's about two-and-a-half minutes of on-air work at WKIO-FM in Champaign, Illinois, an Oldies station that no longer exists.
Damn, that sounds pretty awesome. Are you sure that wasn't John Charles going nuts over having won $100?
ReplyDeleteNotice I had to get Shatner and Frank Cannon in there somehow.
ReplyDeleteThat's some cool stuff.
ReplyDeleteSlightly disappointed that I didn't get to hear Leo's song.
This is quite excellent. Didn't read the entire post before listening so I thought the clip was staged. "Wow, he sure put a lot into this to end up not using it." Heh.
