I think the Flag appeared in only five comic books during the Golden Age: OUR FLAG #2-5 and FOUR FAVORITES #6 (this may have been a continuation of OUR FLAG). I guess if you are born with a birthmark on your chest that resembles the American flag, there isn't much else you can do besides become a patriotic superhero known as the Flag. That's what Jim Courtney, son of a professional flagmaker, did to battle Nazis during World War II.
I don't think the "Anderson" who apparently drew this splash for OUR FLAG #4 is famed DC Comics artist Murphy Anderson. I know little else about this story from Ace Periodicals' February 1942 issue, except that the Flag is kicking ass.
